Doi Suthep – Jan. 19, 2016

Here are some photos from Doi Suthep, outside Chiang Mai, an important temple where some Buddha relics live. An incredible place!

Doi Suthep is a massive temple situated on a mountain (doi) overlooking CM. Like the other famous temples, it crawled with camera toting tourists. The vast majority were not there for spiritual reasons (at least overtly), and they jostled for the best photo-op position at key points around the sprawling edifice. I had some sweet moments there, especially at one altar where I meditated and prayed for some time, letting the crowd and noise swirl around me without resistance. It is moments like this that I choose my world. I learn from the world. I stay within my sovereign center. I am so grateful to be here!

Great photos! Beautiful. I wonder how much Chiang Mai has changed, or not, since I was there in 1978?

Chiang Mai is crowded, packed with tourists, the traffic is crazy and the air quality pretty bad. Everyone has a cell phone and cell towers dot the landscape (including in the middle of residential neighborhoods).Other than that, it’s probably about the same. The cultural history and artistry of the people is still alive and well.
