Researchers have recently become interested in studying the effects of being unforgiving and being forgiving. Evidence is mounting that holding on to grudges and bitterness results in long-term health problems. Forgiveness, on the other hand, offers numerous benefits.
There is substantial medical research on the health benefits of forgiveness counseling and releasing emotional pain. For instance, the Mayo Clinic found that forgiveness lowers blood pressure and increases feelings of wellness and calm. It also improves friendships while lowering instances of anger and substance abuse.
